On August 1, 2023, Dr. David McCarl officially retired from McCarl Dental Group at Shipley’s Choice. As a trusted dentist for more than 34 years, he has delivered exceptional care and service to residents living in Millersville and its surrounding communities.
Earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Maryland Dental School, he went on to complete an advanced restorative clerkship before eventually joining McCarl Dental Group as a young and energetic dentist.
His love for learning did not stop after earning his degree but instead continued through his postdoctoral training and membership in various professional dental organizations.
Dr. McCarl has received recognitions that include:

- Best Dentist and Top Dentist in multiple publications throughout Maryland
- Excellence in Cosmetic Dentistry
- The Quintessence Award for Restorative Dentistry
His dedication to the field is one that his colleagues, patients, and family admire. And his kind and friendly demeanor was appreciated by those who entrusted their smiles into his hands.

He greeted us every morning with a smile, and he ended the day by thanking us all individually for our talent and hard work. He will really be missed.”

In his retirement, he and his wife Pam plan to spend more time with each other, their children, grandchildren, and their dogs. Drs. Clayton McCarl, Jay McCarl, and associate dentist Dr. Michelle Perez will continue to provide top-quality care to patients, and they wish Dr. David nothing but the very best.
